Borla S-Type Axle-Back Exhaust Systems
Borla S-Type axle-back exhaust systems replace the factory rear muffler(s) and exhaust pipe(s) and are installed behind a vehicle's rear axle. Following the same exhaust path and secured using the original hangers and rubber isolators, Borla axle-back (or rear section) performance exhausts are less restrictive than factory exhaust systems and improve the sound level both inside and outside the cabin.
S-Type axle-back exhaust systems use engine-specific (not universal) mufflers that are designed, tested, and optimized specifically for a particular year, make, and model. Improvements in sound and performance are accomplished by using superior muffler designs, mandrel-bent tubing, and the application of proper engine-matched tubing diameters. Welded tips are standard on most systems.
Many vehicles have a factory service-point in the exhaust system (flange or slip-fit) located in the exhaust tubing behind the rear axle; so most Borla S-Type axle-back installations are completed in less than an hour with no cutting of the factory system. Vehicles that don't have a factory service-point require cutting, so Borla includes easy-to-follow instructions and hardware to complete the installation.
Borla pioneered the use of aircraft-grade 304 stainless steel tubing, a material with a higher content of carbon and nickel that won't rust or corrode, for the automotive exhaust aftermarket … including Borla S-Type axle-back exhaust systems.

Thank you for your question. The Borla 11944 exhaust system will not work with your 2021 Subaru Crosstrek 2.5L engine. It is designed to work with the 2017-2021 Subaru Impreza/Crosstrek with the 2.0L engine.

This is the third Borla system i have purchased and all have been excellent products. It didn't turn my Crosstrek into a WRX but at least now i can tell if it is running. And it does seem to help a little while merging onto the interstate. And the sound is pleasant, unlike many of the buzzing sounds heard on customized "Jap" racers. A great investment if hearing your vehicle is part of the enjoyment. Oh, and it took me and a friend about 15 minutes to install!

Adds some resonance to your Subaru Impreza!

Installed this on my 2021 Subaru Impreza Sport hatch today and it's definitely given the vehicle a lot more character on the outside harmonics. This is still listed as a part for 2017-2020, but it's perfectly compatible with 2021, as it's the same body style before a likely 2022 refresh. Installation was a breeze, with the stock gasket working fine. Getting the original muffler off was probably more difficult, having to get the old one off the rubber hangers. The hole for the 14mm bolts was a bit tight, but just give it a twist and you will make it just fine. And there is plenty of thread to get it all properly tightened up. My only complaint (not Summit's issue) was the inflated foam protection inside the box left a ton of foam and printing stuck on the muffler, but a quick scrub of the foam with a copper scrubber took care of that and the lettering came off easily with some rubbing alcohol. I suspect the heat the foam made inflating was the cause but again, that's not Summit's issue and it easily resolved to anyone likely to try and handle this install.
